Export ban on used tyres

AZuR, an alliance for the future of tyres (Allianz Zukunft Reifen) is calling on politicians at federal and state level to take action:

The unregulated incineration of used tyres and their waste from German exports to countries outside the EU must be stopped!

Facts:

  • In the past two years in particular, there has been an enormous increase in the export of used tyres from Germany.
  • The export of these meanwhile 200,000 tyres mainly goes to countries in the Middle and Near East.
  • There, a large proportion ends up in cement factories and is incinerated in an uncontrolled manner.

Consequences for the world and Germany:

  • Used tyres are removed from the material cycle
  • Major environmental damage (up to 140,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions)
  • Endangerment of climate targets

The solution:

  • Ban on the export of used tyres to non-EU countries

As a partner of the AZuR network from the very beginning, we support this personal demand to politicians. Only an immediate ban can stop the unregulated treatment of used tyres. There is sufficient capacity in Germany to keep used tyres in the recycling loop. The first step should always be retreading - whether for cars, lorries, aircraft or special vehicles. Only afterwards material and chemical recycling should take place, using as few resources and recovering as many raw materials as possible.

Climate protection for present and future generations is important to us.

King-Meiler retreads are giving tyres a new lease of life.
